Music My Rock

I listen to lots of very different styles of music. I spend a lot of time arguing with friends that the music you listen to forms the foundation of your personality, because it impacts on so many things in life - everything from your political opinions to what you wear. True lovers of music find themselves ruled by it. For me it can sometimes be a wide-open field that grows endless possibilities, and other times it can be a restrictive box, making me feel helpless.I myself am a musician and quite often find myself dreaming - wishing I had the talents to string together some thoughtful words and chords and produce something wonderful. How do they do it? Music is an extension of the self. This becomes apparent through artists such as Noel/Liam Gallagher, whose attitude and personality shines through every single note. Other artists like Alanis Morissette lay bare their emotions of loving and loathing, and portray a very real image of themselves that most of us can connect to.Real music is rare. And by "real" I am not referring specifically to originality or independence; I am referring to those that write simply because they have to write. Those whose souls are so wrapped up and distracted that they just have to find an outlet. How often do you hear something on the radio and feel that the singer truly means it?Of course, not all music should be this dramatic or deep. We need our cheesy pop and throw-away rock, but this article pays a personal homage to every artist out there that has crooned the words I struggle to find.Matt SaundersSpace Clothing
